The Case Reference Number appears on all decisions and associated documents related to a case. It is a unique case identifier comprising of a number of elements.

Decisions and Reasons are issued by an independent decision making body in the form of a Committee or a Tribunal.

Fair Rent cases are rent disputes covered by the provisions of the Rent Act 1977. Decisions under this jurisdiction are made by a Committee Assessment Committee.
Market Rent cases are rent disputes covered by the Housing Act 1988. Decisions made under this jurisdiction are made by a Rent Assessment Committee.
LVT cases are Leasehold disputes covered by the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985; the Leasehold Reform Act 1967 and the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993. Decisions under this jurisdiction are made by a Leasehold Valuation Tribunal.
Housing Act Appeals are certain types of housing disputes covered by the provision of the Rent Act 1977 and the Housing Act 2004. Decisions under this jurisdiction are made by a Residential Property Tribunal.

Decisions made by Leasehold Valuation Tribunals are available online on the Leasehold Advisory Service website at


Decision and reasons documents made by Rent Assessment Committees or Leasehold Valuation Tribunal from 01 January 2006 to 31 December 2010 may be inspected at the Residential Property Tribunal office for the area in which the property is situated. Copies can be made of these documents, for which the RPT office may charge a fee. Contact the appropriate RPT office to make an appointment to inspect these documents.

A request to remove a particular decision from the website must be made in writing to the RPT corporate Unit. The request should set out the reasons for wanting the decision removed. All requests will be considered on a case by case basis.
